Landscape Nursery Assistant

Job description:
Assist the Nursery Department in all aspects of the nursery operations.  This includes the unloading of trucks, general plant care (shifting, fertilizing, watering, and pruning), maintaining the nursery grounds (including the irrigation system) and assisting other departments within the company as needed.  A focus of this position would be to make sure all sold plant material is properly tagged and assembled for the installation crews as scheduled.  This involves tagging the plant material with the job name off of a load list, working with the sales staff on substitutions, pre assembling the plant material before the scheduled installation date and loading the crews with the proper plant material as needed.  Great communication between the salespersons and the construction manager with this position is critical.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent work experience in Horticulture or related field.
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of woody plant material and the proper cultural practices needed to maintain the plants.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently or oversee a crew is a must.
  • Bobcat skills a must with forklift experience a plus.  The ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain automatic irrigation systems is a must.
  • Should be a team player and be willing to work long and flexible hours.
